He instructed the military and intelligence services to strengthen the protection of classified documents.
While we are still studying how true these documents are, I have instructed that measures be taken to further protect and limit the spread of classified information. And our national security team closely coordinates its actions with partners and allies, the president said.
In particular, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin ordered a review of the procedures for accessing intelligence information in order to rule out future origins.
Biden also praised the FBI for a “swift investigation” that resulted in the arrest of military pilot Jack Teixeira, accused of leaking documents online.
This is the most serious leak of information from the US defense departments since 2013, when the scandal broke out around the release of US National Security Agency (NSA) data by Edward Snowden.
