The agreement will facilitate the exchange of evidence and information, and the work of the JIT will be strengthened by international experts, said the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
Members of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that will investigate serious international crimes in Ukraine signed an agreement to investigate not only war crimes, but also the crime of genocide. This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
“International cooperation in the investigation and prosecution of genocide reaches a new level. We are joining forces with partners to investigate this “crime of crimes”. The agreement will facilitate the exchange of evidence and information , and the work of the JIT will be strengthened by international experts,” said Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin.
As the Prosecutor General emphasized, from the first days of a full-scale war, it became clear that the nature of the mass and systematic nature of the war crimes committed in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine had signs of a campaign to persecute Ukrainians as a national group.
“Now in our investigations we are examining two main aspects: whether individual war crimes have signs of genocide and whether the patterns discovered indicate a planned policy of genocide,” said the prosecutor general.
The report states that during the two-day coordination meeting in Vilnius, the members of the group discussed the progress of the investigations, their directions and consulted on important decisions on the activities of the JIT, as well as possibility to join Europol’s JIT.
Remember that the UN found no evidence of genocide of Ukrainians.
