The suspect in the Pentagon leak case could face decades in prison.
Jack Teixeira, suspected of leaking secret Pentagon documents, could face dozens of years in prison. It was reported by The New York Times.
The publication’s journalist Charlie Savage reviewed the statement of the head of the US Department of Justice Merrick Garland in this case.
“Garland’s report indicates that Teixeira will be charged under section 18 USC 793, also known as the espionage law,” he said.
This law prohibited the unauthorized seizure, possession, and transfer of confidential national defense documents that could be used to harm the United States or aid a foreign adversary.
Each of these items is a separate offense and is punishable by up to ten years in prison.
