In one of the secret documents, Pentagon officials indicated that Russia’s main domestic intelligence service, the FSB, accused the Russian Ministry of Defense “of covering up Russian losses in Ukraine.” The discovery is indicative of the “continued reluctance of military officials to convey bad news.”
The FSB has calculated that the actual number of Russians wounded and killed in action is close to 110,000. The FSB claims that the Russian Defense Ministry does not take into account the dead and wounded among the Russian National Guard, Wagner mercenaries or Kadyrov’s militants.
The last time the Russian military publicly announced the death toll was in September – then they talked about 5,937 dead Russian military.
Another secret Pentagon document indicates that as of February 2023, the Russians suffered losses from 190 to 223 thousand soldiers (including up to 43 thousand killed in battle). The official data of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine on the losses of Russia is 180.5 thousand. The losses of Ukrainians are up to 17 thousand 500 dead defenders of Ukraine.
