Warsaw earlier today officially asked to be allowed to supply MiG-29 fighter jets to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In response, the German government promised to make a decision quickly.
Der Spiegel does not specify how many planes Berlin allowed to transfer.
Earlier, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung reported that, probably, we are talking about five MiG-29 fighters. In 2002, Germany sold 23 MiG-29 fighters to Poland, which the Bundeswehr inherited from the army of the German Democratic Republic. Jacek Siver, a security adviser to Polish President Andrzej Duda, said that about a dozen such aircraft remained in service with the Polish Air Force.
