Rome – Doctors have prescribed wheelchairs, crutches and physiotherapy to help Pope Francis heal his injured knee. He had another idea.
According to the Pope’s viral video, at the end of the recent audience, Francis laughed saying what he really needed in pain was tequila.
Francis walks towards St. Peter’s Square was aboard a papyrus when he was stopped by a group of Mexican seminarians from the Legion of Christ who asked him in his native Spanish how he had difficulty kneeling. After answering that he was “fickle,” they told Francis that they admired the ability to smile despite the pain and that he was an example for would-be priests like them.
“Do you know what I need for my knee?” Francis asked them from Papmobile. “A little tequila.” The seminarians smiled and promised to deliver the bottle to the Hotel Santa Marta where Frances lives.
The 85-year-old Argentine pope has been suffering from strained ligaments in his right knee for months and, on the advice of doctors, recently used a wheelchair and cane to heal.
His limited mobility has sparked a predictable round of media speculation about his health and future conclave, but a close aide recently said the Pope is “better than ever” and undergoes two hours of physiotherapy a day. .
“He is in good health and as brilliant as ever,” Victor Manuel Fernandez, Argentine bishop of La Plata, wrote on Twitter after seeing the pope on May 14. “(There is) a problem with one knee, but more than two hours he rehab every day, which gives results. This is better than ever for everyone ”.
Francis recently left on a planned two -day trip to Lebanon next month, citing a knee problem, but the Vatican has confirmed he will travel to Congo and South Sudan in July, as well as Canada.
