Ukraine is considering delaying the counteroffensive until the summer to be 100% prepared while it fends off Russian attacks in Bakhmut, Avdiivka and Marinka and investigates a video of a possible war crime against one of its servicemen.

“All our friends and partners clearly understand that in order to go on the counteroffensive, you need to be one hundred percent ready and even more,” Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said in an interview with the American newspaper The Hill.

Counteroffensive, in due time

Shmygal assured that Kyiv does not feel pressure from partners in order to launch a counteroffensive as soon as possible.

The prime minister downplayed the impact of the recent leaks on Ukrainian military commanders’ plans for the battlefield, simply stating that “Ukraine liberate their territories.

“We have shown several times that we can do it. We are asking our international partners for more weapons such as tanks, ammunition, aircraft, armored vehicles,” he said.

The Washington Post also wrote today about the possible postponement of the counteroffensive. Ukraine from spring to summer due to the “weather conditions” in the war zone and the slow supply of weapons.

The publication suggests that Ukrainian plans were influenced by leaks of information about the current state of Ukrainian troops and their weaknesses.

In an attempt to hasten the liberation of their territories, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, who visited Spain, asked Madrid for naval assistance, especially against mines, and more ammunition for artillery, in particular 155 and 105 calibers.

Ukraine is investigating the murder of a soldier

Meanwhile, President Mr. UkraineVolodymyr Zelenskyy today called on the international community and its leaders to act urgently with concrete measures to help Kyiv win Russia before the appearance of a video in which an alleged Russian soldier beheads a Ukrainian prisoner of war.

“This is something no one in the world can ignore: the ease with which these beasts kill,” Zelenskiy said in a video recorded from the president’s office, saying it was not an isolated incident but a “new normal” that I would try to impose Russia.

A video found on Russian social media by the American broadcaster CNN allegedly shows the beheading of a living Ukrainian soldier at the hands of a Russian military.

The images were supposed to have been recorded last summer, and Ukrainian intelligence agencies are trying to identify who is depicted in them.

Wagner stands out

The head of the Wagner group of Russian mercenaries, Yevgeny Prigozhin, in turn, denied the involvement of his units, which are now fighting in Bakhmut, in the eastern region of Donetsk, in the beheading of a Ukrainian soldier.

“I saw this video. It is wrong when people are beheaded, but I have not found anywhere that this is happening in Bakhmut or that Wagnerites are involved in this execution, ”Prigozhin said in his Telegram account.

That same Wednesday, the Kremlin called for verification of the video, which is being circulated on social media.

“First, we need to verify the authenticity of the images,” said a spokesman for the presidential administration. RussiaDmitry Peskov in his daily press conference.

Peskov acknowledged that these are “terrible” pictures, but insisted on studying their authenticity.

“This may give rise to find out whether this really happened, and if so, who did it and where,” he added.

Bahmut, the second Aleppo

For his part, Deputy Minister of Defense UkraineHanna Malyar, said that the city of Bakhmut, where fighting has not stopped for several months, is on the way to repeating the fate of the devastated Aleppo.

“The enemy has already made Aleppo (…) part of the city blocks,” said the deputy minister, quoted by Fakty.ua.

According to Malyar, the Russians “usually lose in urban battles” and therefore use the tactics of total destruction of buildings, positions and “everything in sight.”

In this regard, the official representative of the Eastern Command of the Armed Forces UkraineSergei Cherevaty assured that if the Russians did not change tactics in Bakhmut, then in two months they would be left without their main striking force – Wagner’s mercenaries.

Ministry of Defence Russiain turn reported today that Wagner continues his offensive in the city, where in the last 24 hours he has taken three blocks.

Marinka, another hot spot

Fighting continues in other points of the front, such as the cities of Marinka and Avdeevka in the Donetsk region.

According to the latest military report from Kyiv, it is in Marinka that the most intense fighting since the time of Bakhmut is taking place, a view that British intelligence supported in a recent report. (As reported by EFE)
