Only a quarter of citizens positively assess the idea of placing Russian nuclear weapons on its territory.
Most citizens of Belarus are against the establishment of Russian nuclear weapons (NW) on the territory of their country. This is confirmed by the results of a Chatham House poll.
“The survey was conducted using Internet interviews (CAWI), which in practice means that the sample is limited to Internet users,” the center said.
The researchers asked how often they receive news from different sources. So, there are four groups:
-
the audience of both state and non-state media – 26%;
-
the audience of non-state media – 18%;
-
public media audience – 37%;
-
those who rarely watch the same type of media – 19%.
The number of Belarusians who receive information from state-owned media increased by 2% compared to the previous survey – from 35% to 37%.
According to Chatham House, 44% clearly expressed their disagreement. Another quarter could not answer the question related to military action.
There are more opponents of the actions of Russian troops than supporters in all segments, except for the state media audience. Among those who read state media, Russian military aggression is clearly supported – 53%.
The study shows that Belarus remains opposed to the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons on the country’s territory. Only 25% of respondents have a positive view of this idea.
At the same time, a negative attitude prevails in all segments of the media, including the state media audience.
The majority – 70% of Belarusians – support only economic integration with Russia – without political and military.
The option of “joining Russia” was chosen by only 4% of respondents. 17% are against any unions.
As you know, on March 25, the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, said that Moscow agreed with Minsk on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.
The head of the ruling regime in Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, said that with the growing threat to the country, strategic nuclear weapons could be introduced and the infrastructure should be ready for this.
Recall that earlier we reported that Lukashenka was holding a meeting in Minsk with Shoigu. The formal leader of the Republic of Belarus complained to a Russian official that “Western countries are not fulfilling the agreements on security guarantees given under the Budapest Memorandum in exchange for the removal of nuclear weapons” and therefore the Belarusian regime wants guarantees from Russia.
