The founder of PMC Wagner claims that the Russian Federation “controls 80%” of the city, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine denied this statement.
The founder of PMC Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin, allegedly claims control over 80% of Bakhmut. However, this is yet another attempt to justify their defeats in the city over the past 9 months. This was said by the representative of the eastern group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Cherevaty in a commentary on CNN, published on Tuesday, April 11.
Prigozhin said that the “Wagnerites” were allegedly “completely concentrated in Bakhmut, constantly carrying out combat missions.”
“In Bakhmut, most of them – that is, more than 80% – are under our control, including the entire administrative center, factories, factories, city administration. The rest are part of multi-storey residential quarters where made the fortified areas. . There are tunnels under these tall buildings,” – he said.
Cherevaty rejected such claims and noted that in this way Prigozhin was trying to demonstrate at least some kind of victory in the city, which the Russians had been trying to capture for nine months.
“This statement by Prigozhin is not true. I just contacted the commander of one of the brigades defending the city. I can say with confidence that the Ukrainian defense forces control a larger percentage of the territory of Bakhmut. It is necessary show Prigozhin at least some kind of victory in the city, which they tried to capture for nine months in a row, so he made such statements,” explained the spokesman of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Note that Russia intends to sponsor and develop alternative private military companies to eventually replace the Wagner Group in Ukraine.
