Flight restrictions in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Moldova will remain in place until 2029, Eurocontrol predicts.
Restrictions on civil aviation flights in the airspace of Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Moldova may remain until 2029. This is stated in the seven-year forecast of the European Organization for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol).
“Restrictions on Ukrainian, Russian, Belarusian and Moldovan airspace will remain in effect until the end of the forecast horizon (2029),” the document said.
It has been noted that the aviation industry continues to recover from the coronavirus pandemic, but the main factors slowing down this process are the full Russian invasion of Ukraine, restrictions on domestic flights for environmental reasons, staff shortages in airports and related strikes.
The document also makes it clear that we are talking about returning to standard aircraft routes.
Among the main factors in how Russia’s aggression in Ukraine affects civil aviation, Eurocontrol cited a general deterioration in the economic situation, especially lower GDP growth forecasts due to disruptions in energy supply chain, high inflation and declining general confidence.
Recall that Ukraine completely closed its airspace to civilian aircraft on February 24, 2022, the day of a full-scale Russian invasion. Soon after, EU countries and the US closed their airspace to Russian aircraft. Russia later retaliated.
