From the data leaked to the Network, it is not clear whether the Turkish government is aware of this and whether the negotiations were successful.
According to secret Pentagon documents leaked on the Web, US intelligence agencies knew about Wagner PMC’s attempt to buy weapons from NATO country Turkey, and also knew about Russia’s plans for a war in Ukraine, the Washington Post reports.
According to the leaked documents, in early February, Wagner employees “met with Turkish representatives to buy weapons and equipment in Turkey” to strengthen the PMC’s position in the war in Ukraine and Mali.
It is not clear from the report whether the Turkish government was aware of this or whether the negotiations were successful. But “the discovery that a NATO ally could be helping Russia in the war against Ukraine could be explosive,” the newspaper wrote.
Two other pages from the leaked intelligence dossier reveal Wagner’s plans to take Russian prisoners to fight in Ukraine and note that the Russian military has become dependent on private soldiers.
“The documents also show what has long been understood but never said publicly out loud: the US intelligence community penetrated the Russian army and its command so deeply that it could have warned Ukraine before the attacks and reliably assess the strengths and weaknesses of Russian troops” , – writes the edition.
Recall that Russia intends to sponsor and develop alternative private military companies (PMCs) to eventually replace the Wagner group in Ukraine.
