In Russia, the Ministry of Justice entered the journalist Arkady Babchenko into the register of “foreign agents”. He, according to the Muscovites, “collected funds to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine, disseminated false information about the decisions made by public authorities and their policies.”

Also included in the register of foreign agents is Chronicle LLC, a legal entity previously recognized as a foreign agent by Vitaly Ruvinsky, a journalist and former editor-in-chief of the website of the Ekho Moskvy radio station.
Babchenko worked as a military correspondent for Moskovsky Komsomolets, collaborated with Novaya Gazeta, Russian TV channels and other publications. In 2017, he left Russia, fearing for his safety.
In 2018, the Security Service of Ukraine staged the murder of a blogger, allegedly in order to identify those behind the real attempt on his life. After the victory of Vladimir Zelensky in the presidential elections in Ukraine, Babchenko left the country.
In 2020, Rosfinmonitoring included Babchenko in the list of terrorists and extremists. In January 2023, the Russian Interior Ministry put him on the wanted list.
In a post written before leaving Ukraine, Babchenko said he still had plans to drive down Moscow’s Tverskaya Street in an Abrams tank, “as promised.”
Muscovites did not comment on Babchenko’s desire to drive around Moscow’s Red Square in the American Abrams.
