The NATO leader declined to go into details of the issues discussed and possible solutions, but believes they will be resolved within a few weeks.
NATO leader Jens Stoltenberg hopes Turkey’s objections to Sweden and Finland’s membership bids will be lifted within a few weeks. This was reported by the publication VG.
“Our goal is to find out quickly. In NATO, disagreements often arise before important decisions. But we have a lot of experience sitting down and finding solutions,” Stoltenberg said.
The NATO leader refused to go into details of the issues in question and possible solutions after Turkey stopped the internal process at the NATO Council, and therefore the processing of applications from Finland and Sweden.
He said there was interaction with Turkey and with Sweden and Denmark. When asked how long it would take, the Secretary General replied:
“We’ve been talking about weeks before. That’s still my goal.”
Recall that Turkey blocked NATO’s initial decision to develop applications from Finland and Sweden to join the Alliance, questioning the hope for the early entry of the two Scandinavian countries.
