The American president decided to extend the sanctions regime against the Russian Federation for the war in Ukraine for another year.
US President Joseph Biden has extended a series of sanctions imposed over Russia’s all-out invasion of Ukraine for another year. This was reported by the press service of the White House on Friday, April 7.
The sanctions regime was extended against the backdrop of the following harmful activities of the Russian government abroad:
-
efforts to undermine the conduct of free and fair democratic elections and democratic institutions in the United States and its allies and partners;
-
engages in and facilitates malicious cyber-based activities against the United States and its allies and partners;
-
encouraging and using transnational corruption to influence foreign governments;
-
conducting extraterritorial activities directed against dissidents or journalists;
-
undermining security in countries and regions important to US national security;
-
violation of established principles of international law, including respect for the territorial integrity of states – continues to present an unusual and extraordinary threat to US national security, foreign policy, and the economy.
“Therefore, I have determined that it is necessary to continue the state of emergency declared in Executive Order 14024 in connection with certain harmful external activities of the government of the Russian Federation,” said the American leader.
It will be remembered that earlier the head of the Kremlin, Vladimir Putin, admitted that Western countries have imposed sanctions against Russia for a long time.
