This was stated on April 7 by the lawyer of Metropolitan Pavel (Lebid).
The Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra/Men’s Monastery/Ukrainian Orthodox Church filed a petition to return religious buildings and structures to the ownership of the religious community, Chekman said.
The defender of the suspect in justifying Russian aggression claims that the return of the Lavra to state property seems to be “unfair, since it was thanks to the parishioners that the church was restored.”
It should be noted that during the reception of the property, the auditors of the commission of the Ministry of Culture found 36 illegally erected objects on the territory of the Lavra. At the same time, some historical buildings are in extremely poor condition.
Background
The UOC-MP promised to appeal against the decision of the Kyiv Economic Court on the lease of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra at the end of March.
An application was filed to secure the claim with a request that no illegal actions be committed against the monastery during the consideration of the case on the merits. The court refused to satisfy the application to the monastery. It is this refusal. which did not enter into force, was appealed by the lawyers of the UOC-MP on appeal.
Consideration of the lawsuit itself is scheduled for April 26, the legal department of the pro-Russian church said.
Also in the statement, the priests hint that they do not plan to leave the Lavra until the end of the trials, and any attempts to evict them from there are “illegal”.
Despite the end of the lease agreement, from March 29, the UOC-MP will refuse to leave the Lavra.
On March 30, the Cabinet of Ministers recognized as invalid the order of the government of the times of Yanukovych on the transfer of buildings and structures of the Lavra to the Holy Assumption Monastery of the UOC (MP) for free use.
Who is next?
The Pochaev Assumption Lavra, like the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, should return to state control, says Yevgenia Kravchuk, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Humanitarian and Information Policy.
At the meeting of the Committee, the people’s deputies recommended the adoption as a basis and in general of a draft resolution on verifying compliance by the Pochaev Holy Dormition Lavra with the terms of agreements on the gratuitous use of religious buildings and other property that is state property.
The draft resolution of the Rada is called: “On the Appeal of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on the termination of the agreement with the Pochaev Holy Assumption Lavra on the free use of the complex of buildings of the Pochaev Lavra.”
