Indian engineers have completed design work on the fifth-generation stealth fighter and are ready to build a prototype. This was reported by The Times of India on April 7, citing its own sources.
It was noted that the development of a 25-ton aircraft will soon be submitted for consideration by the Security Committee, headed by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi.
The AMCA project included the creation of five fighter prototypes, flight tests and certification. The entire range of work is being carried out by the Indian Defense Research and Development Organization.
The cost of the project is estimated at $1.8 billion.
It is expected that the first prototype of AMCA will appear four years after the approval of the project. Serial production of the fighter will be launched in six years.
The publication states that the preparations for the creation of AMSA have refuted the information that India is allegedly interested in purchasing American F-35A fighters.
It was previously reported that the UK, along with Italy and Japan, will work on the creation of a sixth generation fighter. The project must be approved by 2025.
