Lieutenant General Sergei Naev showed how the Avenger air defense missile system (Avenger) works. This complex was recently handed over to Ukraine by the United States. It is capable of effectively detecting and destroying Shahed kamikaze drones, and is also easy to operate.
They are capable of providing short-range mobile air defense for civilian infrastructure facilities, units of the Security and Defense Sector against cruise missiles, unmanned aerial vehicles, aircraft and helicopters at low altitudes, Naev, Commander of the Joint Forces, explained.
SAMs are equipped with a thermal imaging sight, thanks to which they can work day and night.
The vehicles are armed with Stinger missiles and also have a Browning AN/M3 heavy machine gun.
In general, Ukraine was supposed to receive 12 such anti-aircraft missile systems from the United States.
These cars arrived from the USA to Germany in the first half of February. The equipment was delivered to the German port in Bremergafen.
The complex is designed to destroy air targets at altitudes of 0.5-3.8 km and at ranges of 0.5-5.5 km.
The American short-range self-propelled anti-aircraft missile system is mounted on the chassis of the HMMWV army off-road vehicle.
The air defense system is equipped with two containers of 4 FIM-92 Stinger missiles, a 12.7 mm Browning M2 anti-aircraft machine gun and an optical-electronic station.
