With the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russian enterprises organized logging in Zaporozhye, Kherson and other temporarily occupied regions of Ukraine.
At the same time, uncontrolled barbaric cutting of forest stands is carried out, which, if it continues, will inevitably lead to catastrophic consequences for the environment. This was announced today, April 5, in her Telegram channel by Deputy Defense Minister Anna Malyar.
Most of the forests in this region are of artificial origin and were specially created to protect against wind, soil and water erosion, performing the function of recreational and forest reclamation plantations, – notes Malyar.
Also, Malyar notes, during the last ten days of March 2023, in the Mariupol region, intensive movement of columns of Russian trucks loaded with freshly cut round timber was recorded along the E105 and M18 roads.
In addition, in some settlements of the TOT of Ukraine, the Russian command forbade the local population to carry out agricultural work in the fields, which is likely to lead to the disruption of the spring sowing campaign of this year, and in the future to the abandonment of agricultural land, Malyar notes.
Recall that in November 2022, the Ukrainian authorities estimated the environmental damage caused by the Russian invasion to be more than UAH 1 trillion 373 billion.
