Vladimir Putin’s actions have led many countries to become concerned about their own defense, the US Secretary of State said.
The head of the US State Department, Anthony Blinken, thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for NATO expansion and Finland’s membership in the Alliance. Interfax-Ukraine reported this on Tuesday, April 4.
Blinken is understood to have spoken at NATO headquarters in Brussels before the start of a two-day meeting of the Alliance’s foreign ministers.
“This is a historic day, because very soon we will welcome Finland to the Alliance, which will sit at our table. And I try to say that this is probably what we should thank Mr. Putin for. Because this is what He wants to prevent the invasion of Russia, this is why many countries believe they should do more about their own defense and make sure they can deter a possible Russian invasion,” Blinken said.
According to the head of the US State Department, “a lot of work must be done to prepare for the Vilnius summit.”
“It is also important politically and practically to reaffirm our support for Ukraine, to continue the work we did at the previous summits – to strengthen the defense and deterrence of the Alliance as such, and continue to develop partnerships between NATO and countries in the rest of the world,” Blinken outlined the main issues of the current meeting. .
Let’s remind, in April, 4th Finland will officially join NATO. The country will participate in all meetings and activities of the Alliance as a full member.
