The Russian oligarch is no longer suspected of conspiring to deceive the Interior Ministry and conspiring to commit false testimony.
The UK National Crime Agency (NCA) has decided to stop investigating two of the three cases against Russian billionaire Mikhail Fridman. This was reported by the British newspaper Financial Times, citing sources in the agency on Tuesday, April 4.
In particular, the NCA dropped its investigation on suspicion of conspiring to mislead the Home Office and conspiring to make false statements.
However, the agency continues to investigate Friedman’s involvement in money laundering.
NCA officers raided the billionaire’s north London property in December. The parties are now contesting the legality of the search warrant issued. Some of Friedman’s henchmen were arrested for money laundering.
The publication believes that narrowing the scope of the NCA’s investigation into Friedman will be an obstacle for the agency’s new task force, which was created to fight corrupt elites and individuals connected to Russia who launder money in the UK after full Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Mikhail Fridman is a Russian-Israeli businessman of Jewish origin, a native of Lvov. Has Israeli and Russian citizenship.
Founder, co-owner and chairman of the supervisory board of directors of the Alfa Group consortium.
He is also on the supervisory board of directors of several subsidiaries of the consortium, the most notable of which are Alfa-Bank/Alfa-Bank Ukraine, Veon/Beeline/Kyivstar, X5 Retail Group and IDS Borjomi International/Morshinska/Mirgorodska .
According to the US Treasury Department, Friedman has close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, beginning early in his career during the KGB era.
As we have already reported, the NCA detained Mikhail Fridman on suspicion of money laundering, he was released on bail.
We add that the International Group on Combating Money Laundering, following its plenary meeting on October 20-21, banned Russia from participating in its current and future projects.
