In March 2023, the population of Ukraine sold cash and non-cash money to commercial banks in the amount of $1,388.0 million (equivalent) and bought it in the amount of $1,812.3 million. Net purchases of foreign currency totaled $424.3 million. This was reported by the NBU.
It was noted that in March, Ukrainians reduced the purchase of foreign currency by $80.5 million compared to February, when they bought $504.8 million.
According to the National Bank, since the beginning of 2023, Ukrainians sold $5,140.0 million and bought $7,096.9 million. Net purchases of foreign currency amounted to $1,956.8 million.
In Ukraine, demand for non-cash money fell to $147.1 million ($310.3 million in March). Ukrainians bought money in banks at a rate close to the official (UAH 36.6 + commission).
Recall that in March the NBU reduced the sale of foreign currency in the interbank market by 31.3% compared to February.
As reported, the hryvnia continued to grow in the cash market. The exchange rate of the US dollar in exchange offices has dropped to the psychological threshold – 38.00 hryvnia per dollar.
