The US Senate of Congress unanimously approved Bridget Brink’s candidacy for the post of US Ambassador to Ukraine. The meeting on Wednesday, May 18, was broadcast by CNN.
As you know, US President Joe Biden appointed Brink for the aforementioned position.
The diplomat’s swearing -in ceremony will take place soon.
Bridget Brink has been U.S. Ambassador to Slovakia since August 2019. Previously, for several years, she was Deputy Assistant Secretary of State at the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs. From 2014 to 2015, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tashkent. And since 2011, he has worked in Georgia as a deputy head of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Tbilisi.
It will be recalled that the post of head of the U.S. diplomatic mission in Kyiv has remained vacant since May 2019, when the former ambassador, Marie Yovanovitch, was recalled to Washington. The US Charge d’Affaires in Ukraine is currently Christina Quinn.
Yovanovitch was appointed to Kyiv in 2016 under President Barack Obama. In May 2019, he left this post at the request of President Donald Trump, who accused him of dishonesty.
As reported, that in June, Brink may begin his work in Kyiv.
