In Khmelnitsky today, on April 2, in the evening, protesters began to gather near the Holy Intercession Cathedral, outraged by the recent incident with the beating of a Ukrainian military man,
The protesters came with Ukrainian flags and a poster “The Moscow Patriarchate is the curse of Ukraine,” the Public edition reports.
At the entrance to the cathedral they hung a poster with the inscription KGB. Then the activists were able to enter the territory of the temple. At the entrance to the building on the territory of the church there are priests and several men of sporty appearance, with whom the protesters had a crush.
According to eyewitnesses, several thousand protesters have already gathered.
It is also reported that there are dozens of policemen among the crowd and 20 military men are present, including from the 19th separate rifle battalion, where the victim served. According to veterans, the injured soldier is currently in the city hospital.
Signatures have already begun to be collected under the temple for its transition to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine. Meanwhile, the believers of the UOC-MP temple were praying.
The church is being sealed now.
The deputy head of the Khmelnytsky OVA, Sergei Tyurin, recorded a video message in which he called for “reducing the degree of tension” and providing the relevant services with the opportunity to resolve the conflict in a legal way. He assured that law enforcement officers are already investigating the incident with the beating of a military man and will soon give a legal assessment of the actions of both sides.
