The chairmanship of the Russian Federation in the UN Security Council was commented by representatives of the Ukrainian authorities.
Bankovaya believes that this event was the final evidence of the complete bankruptcy of the UN Security Council. In addition, this was the verdict on the entire modern architecture of international security. Andriy Sibiga, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, announced this on the air of the national telethon on April 1.
A representative of Zelensky’s office noted that the world cannot be held hostage to the outdated rules of procedure of the UN Security Council. According to him, Ukraine has been fighting against the Russian invaders for more than a year, and Russia, which unleashed the bloodiest war since World War II, must be expelled from the United Nations.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba stressed that the UN Security Council member states need to ensure conditions under which Russia cannot abuse its chairmanship. And the very fact of the vote of the aggressor country in the UN Security Council, Ukraine’s chief diplomat considers a slap in the face of the international community.
I call on the current members of the UN Security Council to stop any attempts by Russia to abuse its chairmanship. I also remind you that Russia is outlawed in the UN Security Council,” he wrote on Twitter.
Recall that 1 aggressor country began to chair the UN Security Council and this will last a month. During the year of a full-scale war that Russia unleashed against Ukraine, they could not expel the Russian Federation from the organization, moreover, they did not deprive it of the opportunity to chair it. At the same time, Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, has the right to veto any of its decisions.
