Against the backdrop of a massive Russian invasion, the Ukrainian authorities set about limiting the influence of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine.
The transfer of Archimandrite Avraamy of UOC-MP to OCU and his appointment as acting governor of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra is a step towards strengthening the spiritual freedom of Ukraine. This was announced on Wednesday, March 29, in an evening speech by the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
“Today, a step has also been taken to strengthen the spiritual freedom of our state, to protect our society from Moscow’s old and cynical religious manipulation,” Zelensky said.
He said that Ukraine is the territory of the greatest religious freedom in our part of Europe.
“So – since 1991. So – it will always be,” insisted the President.
It will be recalled, earlier it was reported that the first of the monks of the UOC-MP in the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Archimandrite Abraham (Lotysh), moved to the OCU. The Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, Metropolitan Epiphanius appointed Archimandrite Avraamy (Lotysh) to act as vicar of the Holy Dormition Kiev-Pechersk Lavra as part of the OCU.
