Many civilians want to leave Bakhmut, but they can no longer.
Volunteer Olga Danilova told Radio Liberty about the situation with civilians in the city. She does not agree with the leader of Donbass. He said that the people who remained in Bakhmut categorically refused to leave and were even hiding from rescuers.
Now there are requests for evacuation. People are crying, relatives are crying. A very difficult situation. They already understand that this is a horror, not everyone can survive. There are either those who can’t cope, or people who have a mental disorder, or people who did not expect such a change in the situation,” Danilova said.
According to her, there are people who have already been evacuated by the Russian invaders. At the same time, the Russian evacuation is very different from the Ukrainian one.
This is very uncomfortable. People can’t take all their things, pets. There were cases when dogs were shot.
Earlier, Rakurs reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine pushed back Russian Wagner mercenaries from one of Bakhmut’s supply lines.
At the same time, British intelligence wrote that one of the key achievements of the latest Ukrainian operations was probably the pushing of Russian fighters of the Wagner group from road 0506. This secondary road connecting Vremya Yar and Khromovo became a critical supply line for Ukrainian defenders. Previously, the Wagner PPK was located several hundred meters away, the report says.
How is the evacuation from the front-line cities going?
All children were evacuated from Vuhledar, Velyka Novoselka and Vremny Yar in Donetsk region, the National Police reported. In Avdiivka and Seversk, suffering from Russian shelling, a total of 24 children remained. The evacuation continues.
About 3,500 residents remain in Bakhmut, according to the head of the Donetsk OVA – they refused to leave. Among them are 32 children.
In early March, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a mechanism for the forced evacuation of children from zones of active hostilities, but the head of Bakhmut, Alexander Marchenko, said that it was very difficult to take people out, since the roads were shot through.
The head of the Avdiivka MVA, Vitaliy Barabash, announced on March 27 that he ordered the evacuation of the last employees of public utilities from the city and strongly recommends residents to leave Avdiivka, which is under constant shelling by Russian occupiers.
Therefore, I don’t ask now, I strongly recommend that you go from Avdiivka, because Russian missiles and shells do not spare anyone or anything, no matter what views you hold,” wrote the head of the military administration of the city.
