The issue of using depleted uranium weapons has been studied at the IAEA for a long time, said Grossi.
IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi sees no radiological threat from the use of depleted uranium projectiles. He said this after completing his visit to the temporarily occupied Zaporozhye NPP, Russian media reported.
“I am the director of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and I cannot support or not support the supply (of shells with depleted uranium – ed.). But of course, like everyone else, I want the war to end as soon as possible . ,” he says .
Grossi noted that the issue of using depleted uranium weapons has been studied at the IAEA for a long time.
“This armament does not pose a radiological hazard. But in any case, this issue is not directly related to the work we are doing here,” added the IAEA Director General.
As reported, today Grossi visited the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant temporarily occupied by Russian troops in the city of Energodar.
We will remind, the Deputy Minister of Defense of Great Britain, Anabel Goldie, said that Ukraine will receive shells with depleted uranium. British authorities noted that the transfer of depleted uranium shells to the Ukrainian Armed Forces would not constitute a nuclear escalation.
In response, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he “will be forced to respond accordingly.”
