In the US, renewable energy “won” over coal

The share of renewable energy in total electricity generation increased to 21% from 19% in 2021, the share of coal generation decreased to 20% from 23%,

Electricity production from renewable energy sources (RES) in the United States in 2022 will for the first time exceed that of coal-fired power plants. This was reported by the Energy Information Administration of the country’s Ministry of Energy (EIA).

The share of renewables in total electricity generation is reported to increase to 21%, including 14% from wind and solar power plants, from 19% in 2021, the share of coal generation will decrease to 20% from 23 %, nuclear from 20 % to 19% .

Natural gas remains the main source of energy for electricity generation, and its share has increased from 37% to 39%.

The President and CEO of the American Renewable Energy Council (ACORE), Gregory Whetstone, believes that the development of renewable energy is mainly due to the reduction in the cost of wind and solar generation.

It was previously reported that by 2027 world wind generation capacity will increase by 680 GW.
