The actions of the invaders led to the shallow reservoir of Kakhovka and the residents of the city no longer have access to drinking water.
The water from the Dnieper in the temporarily occupied Berdyansk to the Zaporozhye region has almost disappeared. Today the inhabitants of the city are provided with technical water, but it is not suitable for domestic use. On Tuesday, March 28, the reports Suspіlne with reference to the statement of the deputy head of the Berdyansk District Council Viktor Dudukalova.
“The situation in the city is almost the same as in the 1980s, when technical water was provided through the water supply network, and drinking water was officially provided only through pumps,” the official said.
He noted that the townspeople get drinking water from four columns. They are supplied with water from wells from the village of Azov.
According to him, due to the actions of the invaders, the Kakhovka reservoir became shallow in January and now it is impossible to fill the water supply from it. He added that the situation could also lead to occupied Crimea being left without a centralized water supply.
Residents of Berdyansk had to buy water from producers working for the occupiers. Locals have become hostages of the situation, which can change only after the de-occupation of the south of Ukraine, Dudukalov added.
“The problem is that we cannot safely rely on natural resources, because Berdyansk is located in the sea and drilling will lead to sea water, underground water,” he explained.
