Petr Vovchuk is suspected of involvement in the theft of $60 million in public funds.
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court arrested the former chairman of the board of the State Food and Grain Corporation (SFGCU) Petr Vovchuk and appointed 60 million hryvnia bail. Olha Postolyuk, spokesperson of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, told Ukrinform about it.
“The court arrested the former chairman of the board of the State Food and Grain Corporation with the possibility of making a bail of 60 million hryvnias,” he said.
It can be recalled that since March 2017, the former official has been wanted. In October 2019, he was detained in Vilnius. In early March of this year, Lithuania extradited Vovchuk to Ukraine, suspected of involvement in the theft of $60 million in public funds.
The investigation established that a representative of an international grain trader and former officials of the State Food and Grain Commission, together with Vovchuk, organized a scheme of corruption, according to which the grain property of a state-owned company was delivered to Saudi Arabia by a number. of business entities.
The delivery took place on the terms of cash on delivery, which did not comply with established market rules. As a result, SFGCU did not receive funds and suffered losses in excess of $60 million.
