Aviation bombs, in particular of the FAB-500 type, are in sufficient stock with the Russian invaders.
Now the occupying army of Russia can drop its planning bombs at a distance of 50 km or more, not reaching the border of Ukraine. Therefore, the Armed Forces of Ukraine need the means to hit the planes that produce these bombs. Yuriy Ignat, a representative of the command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, stated this on the air of the telethon on March 25.
These are new challenges and dangers for us. As you can see, in this war more and more new weapons appear, which are beginning to be actively used. These are kamikaze drones, and much more. We have already seen well what air bombs are in Izyum and Mariupol,” he said.
According to Ignat, the Russians used free-fall bombs when Ukraine did not have a powerful air defense. And now the invaders are forced to move to a long range. Converting the FAB-500 into a guided bomb costs the enemy the least amount. And it is cheaper than producing very valuable missiles under sanctions.
The Air Force spokesman added that the Armed Forces of Ukraine also use such bombs, but there are not so many of them in the Ukrainian army.
Recall that on the night of March 24, the Russian invaders used planning bombs to strike at the Sumy region. It turned out that the enemy used the so-called JDAM-ER analogue, the existence of which first became known in early January 2023.
