The agency expressed hope that the UN will avoid measures that “could be interpreted as equalizing the victim and the aggressor.”
Ukraine thanks the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission for fixing the crimes of the Russian Federation. However, at the same time, the UN report on the treatment of prisoners of war and the general situation with human rights in Ukraine is an attempt to level the aggressor and the victim of aggression. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine on Friday, March 24.
The agency noted that it is grateful to the monitoring mission for documenting violations of international law committed by Russia in the context of the armed aggression against Ukraine.
“At the same time, we consider it unacceptable to place responsibility on the victim of aggression. According to the UN Charter, Ukraine has the right to self-defense. As repeatedly noted by the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, the Ukrainian side expects the mission of the UN to avoid any measures that could be interpreted as equalizing the victim and the aggressor” – summarized in the department.
As we have already reported, the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine presented a report expressing its concern about the “arbitrary executions” of up to 25 Russian and 15 Ukrainian prisoners of war.
