The command of the naval base of the Black Sea Fleet of Russia for the first time officially admitted that a year ago it had lost the large landing ship Saratov.
Also in the occupied Sevastopol, a memorial plaque was erected to the dead Russian sailors.
“Saratov” was intended for the landing of amphibious assault and overturning military cargo over long distances.
In August 2008, Saratov took part in the aggression against Georgia, and later in the seizure and occupation of the Crimean peninsula.
“Saratov” sank after the AFU rocket attacks flooded it in the port of Berdyansk. This happened on March 24, 2022, three days after several Russian vessels arrived at the port.
On this occasion, Commander-in-Chief Valery Zaluzhny showed a video of the destruction of Saratov. Then the large landing ships “Orsk”, “Caesar Kunikov” and “Novocherkassk” were also damaged.
