The type of planning bomb that the Rashists used to strike at the Sumy region on the night of March 24 became known.
The Defense Express publication from its own sources received a photo of the wreckage, on which you can recognize the so-called analogue of the JDAM-ER, the existence of which first became known in early January of this year.
Its first known combat use was in occupied Donetsk, when this aerial bomb fell in the northwestern region on 12 March. According to information from the Command of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russians dropped 11 planning bombs, at least some of which are exactly the analogues of the JDAM-ER, as evidenced by the photo.
Defense Express writes that similar debris was just recorded in Donetsk itself, where the use of a kit is known for sure, which turns the usual 500-kg high-explosive FAB-500M-62 into a glider with satellite navigation correction (the presence of an inertial system, as in a full-fledged JDA ER , questionable). In particular, this is evidenced by the shape of the wings, as well as fasteners.
Given the photo, the module in which the flight controls of the ammunition can be placed. This will allow you to accurately determine the navigation system and, if it consists only of satellite, to implement the fight against these JDAM-ER analogues by interfering with GPS, GLONASS and other similar systems. In any case, the most effective means of combating this threat is to destroy the carriers of these bombs.
In early March, the commander of the US Air Force in Europe, General James Hecker, confirmed that the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was already using JDAM-ER guided bombs with a range of up to 72 km.
Recently, we sent some precision-guided munitions to Ukraine, which have an extended range and hit a little further than an unguided free-fall bomb, and have accurate aiming, ”The War Zone quotes the words of the general.
Hecker confirmed that he was talking about the JDAM-ER. According to him, the Ukrainians received the opportunity to use these air bombs “probably in the last three weeks.” He noted that the total number of JDAM-ERs currently in Ukraine is limited. They are enough for a few hits.
In December, it was reported that the United States plans to transfer to Ukraine advanced Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) electronic equipment capable of turning unguided aircraft munitions into “smart bombs”.
The kits include global positioning devices for increased accuracy and can be attached to different types of weapons and aircraft, forming a common Direct Attack Ammunition (Joint Direct Attack Munition). The US military has used this technology for bombs up to 907 kg, usually applied to bombers and fighters.
