The Russian invasion could leave 70% of Ukraine’s population without water, asserted the head of the department Ruslan Strelets.
Russia uses all possible levers of terrorism on the territory of Ukraine, in particular, depriving the citizens of the country of access to drinking water. This was announced on Facebook on March 24 by Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ruslan Strelets.
He emphasized that Ukraine is losing its water infrastructure as a result of the ongoing rocket attacks by the Russian Federation.
According to Strelts, five million Ukrainians do not have access to drinking water due to the Russian invasion, and another 70% of the population may be left without it.
“As a result of the release of water from the Kakhovka reservoir, there is a threat of failure of the cooling systems of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant – the largest in Europe. This will mean a possible Fukushima scenario in the middle of the European continent,” added of the minister.
Sagittarius noted that the peaceful sky in Ukraine is the leitmotif of the UN Conference taking place in New York Water for sustainable development.
“Such events are extremely important for the state, which is attacked every day by Russian missiles and propaganda… It is important to remind every day that the environment has no borders. War has no borders. The Russians came with weapons to our common house. They are burning every living thing on a planet,” emphasized the head of the Ministry of Natural Resources.
He also recalled that Ukraine joined the global initiative for sustainable resource management and adopted the Water Strategy until 2050.
It was earlier reported that the UN opened the first conference on water security in half a century.
