According to the investigation, the woman took care of the unwanted son of a 23-year-old girlfriend, whom she secretly gave birth at home in April 2022 and gave away the day after the birth.
The boy soon became superfluous and the guardian, so she decided to sell him – without concluding any agreements provided for by the legislation of Ukraine and drawing up documents for adoption, the department notes.
The press service of the police of the Volyn region notes that at first the woman was worried about the baby, hiding it from prying eyes, but later, in order to improve her financial situation, she began to look for people who wanted to buy a baby – as a result, the law enforcement officers got the relevant information.
A woman was detained on March 23, 2023 in Lutsk – during the transfer of the child to the buyer. She was informed about the suspicion of human trafficking committed against a minor (part 3 of article 149 of the Criminal Code), the issue of choosing a preventive measure is being decided.
The child was seized and he is in a hospital.
