Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin called Ukrainian Defense Minister Alexei Reznikov and told him about the results of recent talks with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu. This was announced on Sunday, May 15, on the Pentagon website.
At the same time, Austin and Reznikov discussed the situation in Ukraine, its need for weapons. The Pentagon leader assured that the United States intends to continue to help Ukraine strengthen the country’s military potential to counter the occupying Russian troops.
Minister Austin provided information in his telephone conversation on May 13 with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, in which he called for an immediate end to the conflict in Ukraine and stressed the importance of maintaining channels of communication.
Earlier, analysts reported that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to include occupied southern and eastern Ukraine directly in the Russian Federation.
It was also reported that Russia plans to send up to 2,500 reservists to the war in Ukraine, which are already undergoing training at training areas in Russia’s Voronezh, Belgorod and Rostov regions.
