All 48 deputies of the Icelandic parliament present at the meeting unanimously voted for the resolution on the Holodomor.
The Icelandic Althing Parliament recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the people of Ukraine. This was announced by Icelandic Foreign Minister Thordis Kolbrun Reikfjord Gilfadottir in Twitter on Thursday, March 23rd.
“Today, the Althing recognized the artificial winter famine of 1932-1933 as a genocide committed by the totalitarian government in Moscow against the people of Ukraine,” he wrote.
The publication mbl.is clarified that all 48 representatives of the Althingi present at the meeting unanimously voted for the resolution on the Holodomor. These are representatives from all parties represented in parliament.
President Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Iceland for the resolution.
“I am grateful to Iceland for recognizing the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people, for the memory of the millions of Ukrainians killed by the Moscow regime. This is a clear sign that such crimes do not go away with impunity and no statute of limitations,” he wrote in Twitter.
It will be recalled that on March 10, the Belgian Parliament recognized the Holodomor as genocide of the Ukrainian people. Earlier, the same decisions were made by the parliaments of Germany, Bulgaria and other countries.
