The country’s parliament supported in the second reading the bill of the leading party, which stipulates that in legislative documents instead of the phrase “Moldovan language” “Romanian language” will be used.
Moldovan President Maia Sandu signed a law that provides for the integration of the concept of “Romanian language” in all laws of the country instead of “Moldovan” and “indigenous” languages. On Wednesday, March 22, Sandu wrote on Facebook.
“Today I signed a law that confirms the historical and indisputable truth: the official language of the Republic of Moldova is Romanian. I want the Romanian language to unite all of us who live here and love this land,” he emphasized.
He emphasized that Moldova, with more than 27 million people worldwide, speaks Romanian, one of the official languages of the European Union.
According to the President of Moldova, the allegations about the existence of a specific Moldovan language, which exists separately from Romanian, “have only one purpose: to divide us.”
” This happens because when you divide a nation, it is easier for you to conquer and control it. A divided people is not a united force that can defend itself. Those who try to divide us do not share linguistics, but how to keep Moldova in eternal national strife,” said Sandu.
According to the adopted law, the phrases “Moldovan language”, “state language”, “official language” and “native language” in any grammatical form should be replaced by the phrase “Romanian language”.
After “technical changes” the article of the Moldovan constitution on language will be shorter and will have the following content: “The state language of the Republic of Moldova is the Romanian language.”
Recall that on March 2, the Moldovan Parliament approved the law on the state language in the first reading. But then came the vote with a scandal.
Earlier, the Moldovan Parliament condemned Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. The representatives adopted a declaration in which they called on the Russian Federation to immediately stop hostilities in the neighboring country.
