Bartholomew said the Russian authorities were using the church as “a tool to achieve their goals.”
The Russian Orthodox Church is responsible for the war in Ukraine. This was said by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, who noted that he is ready to help in the post-war “spiritual revival” of the Russian Federation.
“The Russian church and state leadership cooperated in the crime of aggression and shared responsibility for the crimes committed, such as the shocking kidnapping of Ukrainian children,” Reuters quoted the patriarch as saying.
Also, the Ecumenical Patriarch expressed his readiness to help in the “spiritual revival” of Russia.
“Our interreligious dialogue must be focused on ways to combat and neutralize the ability of the leadership of the Moscow Patriarchate to undermine unity and theologically legitimize criminal behavior,” said Bartholomew.
Recall that earlier the National Security Council of Ukraine imposed sanctions against the hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church.
The religious analysis of the charter of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by the Moscow Patriarchate showed the existence of a church-canonical connection with the Russian Orthodox Church.
Bartholomew called the war in Ukraine “devilish”.
