An Australian company has received a contract to build an unmanned vehicle with a speed of up to 8,600 km/h. The US is using it to test hypersonic technology.
Australian aerospace company Hypersonix will build an unmanned hypersonic aircraft from composite materials for the US Department of Defense to test hypersonic weapons. This was announced on March 22 by the 9News TV channel.
It was noted that the device is equipped with a hydrogen hypersonic ramjet engine and will be able to reach speeds from Mach 5 (6174 km / h) to Mach 7 (8600 km / h).
It is fully 3D printed and an environmentally friendly device with zero carbon dioxide emissions.
According to the managing director and co-founder of Hypersonix David Waterhouse, the power plant of the device has no moving parts that can be damaged, and special alloys were used to make it resistant to corrosion, oxidation, high temperatures and pressure.
The flight range of the UAV is at least a thousand km. He can carry around 10 kg of cargo on board.
The first prototype of the UAV is planned to be made at the beginning of 2024.
It was previously reported that the US Department of Defense planned to purchase 24 hypersonic missiles by 2024.
