For participation in the premeditated killings of Maidan activists, employees of the State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) reported suspicion to the duty former commander of the Berkut special police battalion of the GUMVD of Ukraine.
On February 18, 2014, under his leadership, a unit from the Lviv region, along with others, used physical force, special equipment, including light-noise grenades made in the Russian Federation, pump-action shotguns filled with cartridges with lead buckshot, against protesters on Instytutska Street in Kiev and adjacent to her streets.
As a result of such actions, three people died and about 200 received bodily injuries, including gunshots, of varying severity.
The defendant is suspected of exceeding official authority, committing a terrorist act, organizing grievous bodily harm, as well as committing premeditated murders and completed attempts to kill two or more protesters.
The issue of choosing a measure of restraint for him is being decided. Procedural guidance is exercised by the Office of the Attorney General.
Background
In 2021, investigators from the State Bureau of Investigation completed a pre-trial investigation into the February 2014 Maidan crimes committed by senior state officials under former President Viktor Yanukovych.
The investigation into the criminal proceedings against Yanukovych’s criminal group lasted 8 years. During the investigation, more than 1.5 thousand volumes of evidence were collected.
