Seven of the 30 NATO Allies have now met targets to increase their defense spending to 2% of GDP.
NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO agrees on new targets for the production of major weapons for Ukraine.
“To maintain support for Ukraine and at the same time protect the Alliance, the Allies are also in the process of agreeing on new capacity targets for the production of battle-critical munitions and are engaging with industry to strengthen the production,” he said.
According to Stoltenberg, seven of NATO’s 30 countries have now met targets to increase their defense spending to 2% of GDP. At the July summit in Vilnius, they must make new commitments and increase more than 2% of GDP.
In addition, NATO is strengthening the protection of critical infrastructure, including submarine cables and pipelines, notably through the establishment of the Undersea Infrastructure Coordination Group and the NATO-EU Joint Task Force.
Earlier, Stoltenberg said that NATO countries are ready to provide Ukraine with more weapons.
Recall that Stoltenberg is planning a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission at the level of foreign ministers.
