The authorities of hangzhouIn eastern China, a man who killed his wife in July 2020 was executed on Tuesday and ground her body in a meat grinder to dispose of it.

Xu Guoli58 years old, was sentenced to death in July 2021 for murder, the Intermediate People’s Court recalled today hangzhou on his official Wechat account, adding that the evidence against Xu was “numerous and incontrovertible.”

Xu first reported his wife missing. Lai Huilihe was 51 years old at the time and was even offered a 100,000 yuan ($14,530) reward for clues that would clarify what had happened, local media reported.

Police have reviewed 6,000 hours of video footage taken by CCTV cameras in the immediate vicinity of the couple’s home, located in hangzhouand interviewed 379 families living in six blocks of the residential complex, finding no trace of Lai.

The case attracted the attention of the social networks of the Asian country, in which Internet users suggested what happened to the woman.

The authorities then resorted to draining the cesspools of the houses, which were found to contain remains of human tissue, after which Xu was arrested.

Xu confessed to authorities that he killed Lai on the morning of July 5, 2020 by slipping sleeping pills into his drink, and that he minced his corpse with a meat grinder and several knives found in the kitchen.

Defendant disposed of the parts by flushing them down the toilet and throwing them into nearby trash cans.

Releases during the trial period

During the trial, Xu said that he and his wife often argued over financial problems and their daughter’s co-education, and that he felt hurt because she accused him of “uselessness”, although he blamed the murder on “an impulsive act” . “, in contrast to the prosecutor’s office, which saw premeditation in their actions.

Before the execution, the defendant was able to meet with some of the relatives, the judiciary said, which did not provide details about the method used.

The Chinese authorities do not provide official data on the number sentenced to deathbut in Amnesty International’s 2021 report on the death penalty, the organization noted that “China continues to be the world’s greatest executioner”, although he continues to consider execution data a state secret and prevents their independent verification.

Violence against women and girls is a serious human rights violation and women’s right to a life free of violence is included in international agreements. Worldwide, only 40% of women seek help after being abused, forcing institutions to promote prevention and care policies. (EFE)
