Russia wants to freeze the war on its own terms, no tactical move by Russia should mislead the world.
The US is skeptical of China’s “peace” proposals to end the war in Ukraine, as they could be a “braking tactic” to help Russian forces in Ukraine.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said Chinese President Xi Jinping’s official visit to Moscow indicates that China is preparing a “diplomatic cover” for alleged Russian crimes in Ukraine. The words of the head of the State Department leads CNN.
Xi’s trip to Russia, days after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for President Putin, suggests that China feels no responsibility to implicate the Kremlin for the crimes committed in Ukraine, and instead convict them, he is more likely to provide diplomatic cover for Russia to continue committing crimes,” Blinken said, speaking at the State Department.
Blinken also commented on China’s initiative “on a political solution to the Ukrainian crisis.” He noted that Beijing’s proposals include elements that support the United States, but any calls for a ceasefire without the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine “mean support for the ratification of the Russian conquest.”
A ceasefire now without a long-term solution would allow the president to rest and re-equip his troops, and then resume the war at a more favorable time for Russia. The world should not be deceived by a Russian tactic supported by China or any other country to freeze the war on its own terms, Blinken added.
Recall that on March 20, Xi Jinping’s state visit to Russia began, it will last until March 22.
The International Criminal Court in The Hague issued an arrest warrant for Kremlin dictator Putin on March 17 because he is responsible for forcibly deporting children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to Russia.
