The Verkhovna Rada adopted an appeal to the parties to the Rome Charter to take all possible steps to implement the decision of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin. This was announced by MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak on Telegram on Monday, March 20.
According to him, Resolution No. 9122 was supported by 335 votes.
The document contains an appeal to the UN, international parliamentary organizations, parliaments and governments of the countries of the world to strongly condemn the grave crimes committed by Russia on the territory of Ukraine at the behest of the political and military leadership. of it, and take it all. possible steps to investigate these crimes and bring to justice and justly punish all perpetrators under national and universal jurisdiction.
The Rada urges parties to the Rome Statute to take all possible steps to comply with the ICC’s decision to issue an arrest warrant for Russian President Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Lvovskaya-Belova and “their subsequent transfer to the court in accordance with their obligations under Roman law”.
The resolution also contains an appeal to the need to create an international mechanism to compensate for the damage caused to individuals and legal entities and the state of Ukraine as a result of the illegal actions of the Russian Federation.
The Rada also calls on states and other stakeholders to provide full possible support for the activities of the International Center for the Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression against Ukraine to speed up and strengthen the investigation of the crime of aggression by obtaining primary evidence.
It will be recalled that on March 17, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin and Children’s Ombudsman Maria Alekseevna Lvovo-Belova. They are suspected of involvement in the illegal deportation of Ukrainian children.
