The Chinese “peace plan” to be presented to Putin may include some form of ceasefire.
The White House is “doubtful” about Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to Russia to see Vladimir Putin. On Sunday, March 19, CNN reports.
The publication states that the United States tried to prevent the meeting between Xi Jinping and Putin, because they assumed that China would offer Russia measures that would only be beneficial to him, while it would be harmful for in Ukraine.
The White House believes that a one-sided agenda for a meeting between Xi Jinping and Putin “could harm Ukraine.”
“China’s peace plan to be presented to Putin may include some sort of ceasefire that would only allow the Russian Federation to regroup its forces for further attacks,” commented National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on the future meeting of politicians.
“The ceasefire is in fact a confirmation of the Russian occupation,” he said.
The US has also expressed concern that “borderless” cooperation between Putin and Xi could deepen as a result of such talks.
The Kremlin said Xi Jinping will pay a state visit to Russia on March 20-22.
Later, the Chinese Foreign Ministry named the purpose of Xi Jinping’s visit to Russia.
