NATO is considering the option of deploying up to 300,000 of its troops near the borders with Russia. It is planned to strengthen the groups in order to prevent the spread of the war beyond the borders of Ukraine
Politico writes that the first train, which could consist of about 100,000 soldiers ready to be sent within 10 days, could be recruited from Poland, Norway and the Baltic countries (Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania).
The publication quotes the words of Heinrich Brauss, former NATO Assistant Secretary General for Defense Policy and Force Planning. This echelon may also include multinational battlegroups that the alliance has already established on the eastern flank.
Subsequently, the second echelon of troops supported these soldiers. It could be deployed within 10 to 30 days, for example, from representatives of Germany.
However, for this to happen, NATO must convince individual countries to provide different elements: soldiers, training, improved infrastructure and large quantities of expensive weapons, equipment and ammunition.
