In the Donetsk region on March 14, a car of Polish volunteers came under Russian shelling.
As a result, six people were injured, including two Poles: one in a light condition, the other in a serious but stable condition. They were immediately evacuated from the shelling zone and hospitalized. This was announced today, March 18, on the Facebook page of the volunteer organization Nehemiah’s Initiative (Inicjatywa Nehemiasz). The incident is also reported by the Polish edition of PAP.
It is expected that the affected Poles – both from Poznan – will be transported to their homeland in a week or two.
It is noted that the participants of this initiative have been carrying aid to the war-torn regions since May.
On that day, a crew of two experienced volunteers went on the route, during the last stop, where there was a rocket attack.
This was our 22nd trip. It wasn’t the first time either. One of them has been there since 2014, so he is a very experienced person,” a spokesman for Inicjatywa Nehemiasz told reporters.
Adviser to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko earlier today in his Telegram channel reported that it became known about Polish citizens who suffered after the shelling of the city of Chasov Yar in the Donetsk region.
The shell hit a minibus in which two Polish volunteers brought humanitarian aid. Both were injured, – said Gerashchenko. – One of them was evacuated by the Life Saving Center to Mechnikov’s hospital.
Gerashchenko also posted a photo of a white van with a large hole behind the driver’s seat. The bus also bears a sticker reading “Help to Ukraine” and flags of Ukraine, Poland and Latvia.
