Ukrainian refugees in Poland are increasingly facing the wrongful cancellation of their UKR status.
In Poland, cases of wrongly revoking the UKR status of Ukrainian refugees have become more frequent. This leads to the loss of the right to cash payments, medical care and social assistance, according to yavp.pl.
According to the rules, without losing benefits and status, refugees can leave Poland for up to 30 days. At the same time, Ukrainians often have their UKR status canceled even after leaving for a shorter period of time. Refugees will know this after stopping the monthly payments.
The Polish Ombudsman’s office began to receive many complaints from Ukrainians about the loss of UKR status.
During the inspections, the main causes of this problem were identified:
-
The border service registers the date of departure of Ukrainians from Poland, but the date of return is not.
-
Border guards do not stamp the passports of Ukrainians who have the electronic document diia.pl. Therefore, later it will be difficult to prove that Ukrainian citizens left Poland for no more than 30 days.
-
Delays in entering Border Service information into the database on border crossings by Ukrainians.
-
A new grant of UKR status instead of restoring the old one. Therefore, the refugee does not receive payments for the period while the UKR status is invalid.
The Polish Ombudsman asked the government to make the necessary changes to the regulations to streamline the practice of restoring UKR status.
As reported, more than nine million Ukrainians have crossed the Ukrainian-Polish border since February 24, 2022, but 7.5 million Ukrainians have already left Poland.
